I am, at times, rather pathetic. One of my favorite groups is Pan Sonic. They haven't released a new CD since 2001 (though they have performed together and have released a number of solo projects and collaborations in the interim). I keep waiting, hoping for a new Pan Sonic release. Hence, every month or so I stop by the Brainwashed Releases page at Brainwashed.com (a handy reference, in case you're wondering--find it on my links page), and I check to see if there's a new Pan Sonic album coming out in the forseeable future. For the past three years, nada. But, suddenly this week, I see this under May 18, 2004: "Pan sonic - Kesto 4xCD box set (Mute, US)."
At last! Or...is it? I'm still not sure. This is, indeed a new album, but is it a new album or a compilation? Heck, even if it's a compilation, I'm buying it--it's bound to have tons of unreleased stuff on four disks! But I would like to know more. So I checked the one and only Pan Sonic web site, run by Phinnweb (again, see my links). But Phinnweb doesn't have a listing yet, so I go to the Phinnweb Yahoo group and post a question to the board. Lo and behold, Phinnweb himself answers:
I found nothing from mute.com about this, but

mentions a Pan sonic released called 'Kesto', which
is scheduled to 18 May 2004.

US release and it's a 4xCD album box set, cat. no. 9243. Also

this but there's no more info anywhere. Could it be that
this is just their old material gathered together; perhaps
with some unreleased material/rarities, it being a box set?
I heard that Pan sonic are also working on new material
with Suicide's Alan Vega, but there's no info when it will be
out etc.
If anyone knows more, please inform this list too.
I still don't know if either Mika or Ilpo have an e-mail
contact, but I hope to put the guys personally through a third
degree for any news when I meet them at Tampere Biennale early
April :)
